Missing the bandwidth

I've been without 'proper' broadband for a week now, that's probably the longest I've gone since I first had it in 2001. The HTPC keeps reminding me that it has no access to teh interweb, so does the Xbox.

The 3 Mobile broadband has saved my life, being able to access the shop, process orders and answer emails is a godsend! Well worth the money, and I've only used just over 1gig of data in the week. Obviously I have knocked the downloads on the head, so I'm using much less bandwidth than I'd otherwise use.

The speeds are similar to my first broadband experience circa 2001 - 512Mb/s being the average speed for downloads, it also seems to perform better in the morning than later in the day. Latency is quite high too; around about 120ms, so you wouldn't want to do any gaming using the dongle :-)

I think I've just got used to the service from Virgin Media/NTL - 16ms response times (to my UK servers) and reasonable speeds (I know I moaned about only getting 8Mb/s when I should have been getting 20) - seeing what service friends of mine get on DSL has also been a real eye-opener too! Let's hope VM turn up today and the install goes to plan. . .
